Hello all, two days ago we went to the German parliament building known as the Reichstag. This place has been one of, if not, the most historical building in all of Berlin. It was build in the late 19th century, during the time in which Germany was still known as an empire. This is why it is called the Reichstag, this means "Empire building". Soon after, during the First World War, the Soviet Union had taken Berlin and destroyed the Reichstag were it lie in ruins for a number of years. Much after this, and its rebuilding, Hitler coming into power and enacting his emergency laws was actually a direct result of the Reichstag catching fire and losing a significant amount of its infrastructure. Hitler blamed the setting of the fire on the communists in Europe at the time, this is why they were the first victims of the Holocaust. After this and until his end of reign in 1945 the building was decorated with the Swastika. After this and during the time of Divided Berlin, in which the wall was up from 1961-1989, the wall ran right along the premises of the Reichstag. Now, since the reunification of Germany, the building is again the center of politics here in Berlin and they have made great attempts to rebuild the building as it was originally designed and keep its long history on display.
Here are some pictures from inside and on top of the Reichstag. That's all for this one, make sure to take a look at the pictures as well. Thank you for reading.
First, the halls of the Reichstag, along it some preserved portions of graffiti which the Russian soldiers who invaded in World War 2 left behind.
Next, is the center of the Reichstag, wherein all the seats of parliament lie, many seats for the many parties of the German Democratic Government they have today.
Third, the upward view of the same room, I thought the architectural work was magnificent.
Finally, the view from the top of the dome on top of the Reichstag, it is a full 360 degree view
